The long awaited Acer One has finally made an appearance and it’s listed for sale in Taiwan already with European availability starting in 6-10 days according to several etailers. The first model is the A110L which is the most basic out of three SKU’s that Acer will launch.
The A110L comes with an Atom N270 processor, the 945GSE chipset, 512MB to 1GB of RAM depending on where you look, an 8.9in LED backlit LCD display with 1,024×600 resolution, an 8GB NAND flash module, a multi-format memory card reader, 802.11b/g WiFi, 10/100Mbit Ethernet, modem and three USB 2.0 ports.
It measures 249x170x29mm (WxDxH) and weighs in at 0.9kg. Again, depending on where you look it’ll either come with a 2,200mAH 3-cell battery or a 4,400mAH 4-cell battery. It will use Linpus Linux Lite as its OS and it’s divided up into four sections on the screen to make it easy to locate the applications you need. The sections are connect, work, fund and files. Price of NAND flash memory continuing its steady sequential decline. Apple this month cut the price of its Solid State Drive (SSD)-equipped MacBook Air by half a grand($500). The 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with a 64GB SSD is being sold for $2598, down from the $3098 fetching price that was listed as recently as last week. The half-grand markdown is a result of price cuts to two separate components.
First, Apple reduced the price of the Air’s 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor upgrade by $100 to just $200.
Secondly, the company slashed the cost of the Flash memory-based 64GB SSD drive upgrade to $599 from $999. That means customers can now configured a 1.6GHz MacBook Air with an SSD drive for as little as $2398.
Xandros is in the process of aquiring Linspire, which proclaims itself to be world’s easiest linux desktop.
Linspire has been told to change their name to Digital Cornerstone Inc. Linspire is not the name everyone knows. Infact, the only linux distribution I know is ubuntu and red hat. Xandros was an unknown word for me before the introduction of EEE PC by ASUS.
Lets us see what Xandros would do with Linspire :)
It is a Portege. Yet it is not a laptop ;)
