Prestigio has launched a new eReader in the european market, the MultiReader Supreme PER5664 which has a huge 6 inch display featuring the natural-looking e-ink technology.

It is outfitted with additional front lightning that makes it possible to read the display even in direct sunlight or bright rooms. The suggested retail price for the Prestigio MultiReader Supreme ereader is USD 195 (PLN 599).

Big 6 inch display

The 6 inch display is capable of showing greyscale images and features a resolution of 1024×758, which is about the same you get in Android tablets.

Powered by Rockchip 2818 Processor

Inside the shell of Prestigio MultiReader Supreme is a fairly under powered Rockchip 2818 clocked at 600 MHz, but not a lot of power is required to run an ereader that runs Linux operating system.

Decent storage and micro SD card slot

For storage, you get 4 gigabytes of flash that is expandable via micro SD card slot. Up to 16 gigabytes of card is supported.

Excellent battery life

Battery capacity is 1500 mAh and according to the manufacturer, the Prestigio will provide you up to three weeks if you use it for 1 hour each day. Built-in WiFi network will allow you to access to a virtual library from where more than 750 000 ebooks in 25 languages, including 3000 free, can be downloaded.

PocketBook has churned out a new ereader in the European market. It features a massive 6 inch diagonal display and a 1 GHz processor that is backed by meager 256 MB RAM. For storage, you get 4 gigabytes of flash storage but is easily expandable via micro SD card slot.

While the RAM is very less for a device in 2014, but it shall be noted that it is meant to be used as an ereader, not as a tablet for doing web browsing or media consumption. The suggested retail price of the PocketBook Touch Lux 2 is about EUR 440 (USD 600).

PocketBook Touch Lux 2 comes in two colors

It will make its debut in two colors, white and black.

This ereader uses a 6 inch E Ink display whose resolution is 758×1024 pixels. This translates to 212 dpi. The display is capable of showing up to 16 levels of gray.

Technical specification also includes a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1500 mAh, which is expected to deliver up to 8,000 pages change with WiFi off, a micro USB port, and network card (802.11n Wi-Fi). Above all, it has  Linux version 2.6. It has a weight of 208 grams with dimensions of 174.4 114.6 х х 8.3 mm.

Think days of electronic diaries are gone? Well, Sharp still believes there is a decent market for the digital diaries, and today they have launched PW-SB1. It boasts a LCD display that can be rotated 360 degrees, and can be used as slate tablet by turning the keyboard on the back. Priced at 40,000 yen (~ USD 384), it features a higher resolution display compared to its predecessors and much more roomy keyboard.

This is how it looks like when it is in tablet mode. In this mode, the keys of keyboard are disabled to avoid unwanted input.

It comes with a PDF viewer, Adobe Reader LE 2.5 to be exact. The Sharp PW-SB1 handled big PDF files just fine.

Calculator app is also included. Tax consumption mode is also there. Voice recoding app comes pre installed on it. It is not very feature rich but records sounds well.

Sharp PW-SB1 Review Verdict

While this Sharp digital diary tries to make electronic diaries relevant again, it stands no chance against modern tablets or even cheap Chinese tablets. Its proprietary operating system coupled with not-so-comfortable portrait mode prevents us in recommending it to an average Joe or a businessman. Its 5.2 inch display packs WVGA resolution, which is so 2008. Smatphones these days pack full HD resolution while remaining incredibly pocketable form factors.

Believe it or not but a hacker has hacked the snapchat’s database and have put the database public on their website. It is available for download in two formats – sql and csv. Security researchers claimed they could check 75,000 records before they were blocked.  That doesn’t sound heaps secure.

Intel GMA 500 driver for the Windows 8.1 is yet be released, but some experts have already been able to get it working. I own a Sony Vaio P with Intel Atom Z520 and GMA 500 GPU. Few days back, I install windows 8 on it. For obvious reason, graphics felt a lot choppier. This problem was fixed by downloading and installing modified drivers.

Love Android and gaming? Well, Natec has just rolled out Genesis TX77, a gaming console with quad core processor that runs Android operating system. It has real physical buttons on either sides of display which gives you PSP Portable-like experience.

The Specs of Natec include quad core Rockchip RK3188 1.6 GHz processor, quad core Mali 400-MP4 graphics, 1 gigabytes of RAM, and 8 GB flash storage that can be expanded by micro SD card slot. 

The Natec Genesis TX77 is priced very aggressively. It will hit the market shelves in 2nd week of this month (Dec, 2013) with a price tag of just PLN 599 ($196). It measures 237 x 121 x 13 mm and weighs 348 grams.

Mouse Computer  has released a high end desktop PC equipped with the GeForce GTX Ti 780. Specs include Core i7-4770 (3.4GHz), GeForce GTX 780 Ti (3GB) video card, Intel Z87 Express chipset, 8GB memory, 1TB HDD, DVD Super Multi drive, Windows 8.1  64bit operating system. Price is 189,840 yen, but if you go the higher model that costs 199,500 yen, you will get an extra 128GB SSD to spend up the system.

As planned for today, the Microsoft officially retired Windows XP mainstream support. However, extended support will continue till the year 2014. One would wonder, what are the differences between mainstream support and extended support? Well, there are not much. Both offer (free) security updates and phone/web support to the users. However, after today, any new bug-fixes or updates will require extended support contract.

Also, this effects all the versions (excluding Windows XP Embedded). Since, there are not any problems to be solved with the XP (except security holes), we do not need to worry about anything for our netbooks. However, it is encouraged to update to new version of windows (I recommend Windows 7).

Note 1: If Microsoft releases SP4 too, it will retire support for SP3.

Since the launch of the first EEE PC, the ASUS has been paying special attention to their EEE product line. They started off with just the EEE PCs and gradually added more products under the EEE brand. Their recent addition is the EEE Videophone, which claims to be the “World’s First PC-free Videophone for Skype”. It comes with a large 7-inch display and a rather shabby 0.3MP camera. The display resolution is WVGA (800×480)

It comes with built in wifi to effortlessly connect it to the skype and do video calling. For the folks who do not have wifi at home, they can use the not-so-sleek Ethernet connection to get online. It comes with a rechargeable battery. Weighing at 1.6kg, it just offers 20mins talk time and a rather long 2 hour charging time. You better use it on power adapter as you are not going to be able to do a lot of talking if you are not on AC adapter.
