Motorola’s Moto G84 is finally on sale and there seems to be a lot of confusion about their support for eSIMs. For starters, there is XT2347-1, model number for US variant of Moto G84 that has full eSIM support.
Then, we have another version, XT2347-2 that is the EU variant. There is no eSIM support. It appears that while both are exactly the same devices, the eSIM support has been deliberately disabled.
In more technical terms, the Moto G84 XT2347-2 has disabled hardware eSIM support with eSIM software not installed on the eUICC chip.
Other than eSIM support, there are absolutely no additional hardware or software differences between the XT2347-1 and XT2347-2. Motorola has further added that they cannot guarantee that eSIM support will be added to the Moto G84 as a future software update.
Funnily enough, there is an eSIM window in the EU variant. Go to SIM preferences to find that. However, it is non-functioning as it will never be able to detect the eSIM and it is conclusive that it eSIM is disabled by Motorola for the EU nations.
