Purism laptops were launched back in 2015 as a crowd funding campaign. The company sells free and open source laptops that come in 13 inch and 15 inch flavors. The demand for its laptops has grown multifold over the past few years for its Librem 13 and Librem 15 laptops. Purism says that the company is manufacturing enough laptops that its users would not have to wait for their favorite laptop model for months since they are available without few weeks after purchase date.
Unlike most laptops that come with 1-year warranty, Purism laptops come with 2-year warranty which makes them a better buy, atleast for those who like open source software like Linux.
Specifications include Intel Skylake processor, FHD panel, M.2/2.5” SATA III SSD and upto 16GB RAM. The cheaper, entry level laptop models come with as low as 8GB RAM which is not bad at all for Linux.
Prices start at 1700 for the Librem 13 and 1900 dollars for the Librem 15 model.
Purism is making a big deal out of privacy while selling its laptops. All the models come with hardware kill switch that turns off microphone, camera, and wireless hardware making hackers impossible to sniff into stuff. Since the hardware is actually disconnected, the user is completely safe from the hackers who might be trying to sniff.
